Where do you place drum mics?

What I would like to know is, not so much what kind of mics to use, but, where to position them above the drums. I have never miced drums before. I have a basic idea, after studying pictures and videos from other bands' studio sessions, but knowledge is power. Thanks for anything.

Boy, their is a science to everything!
First, what kind of sound do you want?
Close to the rim I believe is poppy and sometimes buzzes
most rim mount's will suffice.Overheads I'm learning are
Crucial.
