I have 2 fostex r8's. They have strong motors, new capstan belts, and are electronically sound. They both have the same problem. One is on the left motor belt, and the exact same thing happens on the other R8 with the right motor belt. The belts are toothed, and are strong, they go around...

no nr on the 80. I don't use noise reduction on my 80. I am pretty careful to keep the highs...I believe it's all part of the analog experience.

Hello, there are pancakes of quatagey 632 tape of 5000' on a 10.5 hub...I am confused, isn't 632 1.5 mil tape and 642 1.0mil tape...and 652 .5 mil tape...but how can they put that much 632 (5000') on one pancake...is the 632 good tape eventhough it is not back coated. Thank for you advice.

Perhaps the belts are the same. I will look into it...I ordered 2 R8 belts and 2 pinch rollers from the Japan site, $80.00 for the 4 items-including shipping (idk how many yen...)...I am really working hard to get all my fostexs up and running, and I have a very poor conditioned R8, step one...

When I got my E-2 I got 4 reels of sealed Quantegy 499 tape. Is this tape going to be too hard on the E2 and or the E8. Thanks, I think I'm going to use 632 on these big decks 642 on the model 80 and model 20...thanks for the feedback.
