any advantage in erasing tapes externaly?

I have an old Ampex 1" bulk eraser, It looks like a seventies microwave oven. Just open the door load the reel and 20 seconds later the tape is as silent as new. There were many cheap ones available in the 60s and 70s, I would avoid those, Paul

4 track cassette only good for demos, while real records are made on 2" Studer?

I did this bands album on my 80-8 and three of the songs are featured in the new National Lampoon movie. Check the news and music part of their website. http://www.ameranouche.com/

what frequency do YOU use for LF calibration?

There is no low frequency eq. The low is the speed. Each speed has it's own high eq adjustment for playback and record and thats all you can change other than the low freq comp. Paul.

    Teac 80-8 .. any info?

I posted a link to 6 shortened demos of a Gypsy Jazz Trio on the Mp-3 Mixing Clinic. They were recorded on an 80-8 using seven tracks with no noise reduction. I did not use any muting as this was just for the guys to hear the night we did the takes. If you have cable or download it you can get...

    Gypsy Jazz Trio

Hi Guys, heres a new link to some shorter clips of some of the tunes I posted a few months ago. That link has expired long ago. There are six songs this time instead of two. The quality is 128kbps with cable or if you download, Paul. http://ameranouche.com/

    Cassette vs. Reel-to-reel

Uli, I'm not sure what you're trying to say but the noise level stays where it is and only appears lower because the output gain can be reduced due to the increased signal, Thats why I hear more print through. And try to be a little more polite, Paul.

    Cassette vs. Reel-to-reel

Hi guys, keep in mind larger tape, faster speed and higher level tape all increase headroom. Headroom is the opposite of tape compression. To say that a half inch two track has the best tape compression is a weird statement. I have five 1/4 inch halftrack machines, some run 7.5/15 and some...

Need advice on testing a G16S for buying

It's probably the tape but some machines will go into shuttle speed if you hit the rewind or fast foward twice. If you hit the stop twice they may go into edit mode, Paul.

    Biasing an Otari Mx-5050MK III-2

A calibration tape and all the tools are needed for a full alignment but you can set the bias using a new 456 tape and the built in 10K test tone. An over bias of 3db will sound great. I use the built in test tone on my Otari MTR-10 all the time. Paul.

I've tried to find the amount of plays and such but can't seem to get there. It gives me the chart position and thats all. Paul.

Do they mean anything. One of the two songs I submited moved up near the top after only two days and I guess the other flopped. Do they start at the bottom, Paul.
