Help with recording chain for tracking only studio (long)

I have a pretty specific project studio in mind for 2010. I wanted to get some advice so I have written a fairly detailed description of what I want to accomplish. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read this very long post and respond to it…. The studio will be recording mostly blues...

    Upgrading Acoustic Recording

I am thinking of upgrading my acoustic recording capabilites. I currently use 1) MXL 603? Small Condensor for the guitar 2) SP B1 or MXL Condensor for vocals. (even an SM57 sometimes) I record into M-Audio Firewire 410 or Line 6 Toneport Into Guitar Tracks Pro (and maybe Sonar 6 if I buy...

    5/8" to 3/8" Adapter

You guys are too kind. I went and looked at the mics and realized that the 3/8 insert probably unscrews. Doh! Then I realized I already posted the dumb ass question!!!! I was afraid to come here and see myself cyber flogged. Can you tell I really know my way around a mic ;)

    5/8" to 3/8" Adapter

Maybe I said it backwards. Mic stand is 5/8 male The shock mount is 3/8 female. I found one at micguys.com for only $5 but I have decided not to give my credit card info to small web sites. I was hoping someone knew of a more common place to purchase one of these.

    5/8" to 3/8" Adapter

I need to get one of these so I gan use one of my shockmounts on a mic stand. I searched the web and could not find anything except for micguys.com. I am a little nervous about giving my cc info to small, random web sites. I tried 2 local music stores and neither had them.

    Mic for Acoustic Blues

Mics are hear Well I got the mics today. Pretty much like everyone said. 1) MXL 603 The winner on the acoustic. Very focussed and you hear all the string detail. Great for slide and easy to set up. 2) SP B1 Very neutral sounding. Also sounds great on acoustic. Just not as focussed. It...

    Mic for Acoustic Blues

Someday I'll try to locate an old Ribbon. For now, I just ordered a B1, v67G, and a 603s. I have to start somewhere. Also, last week I made an impulse purchase of a v57m and shockmount for $50. (shockmount sells for $30). I got it yesterday and since I have never recorded through a...

    Mic for Acoustic Blues

No I have two separate ins. But after I wrote that I realized that the 2 mics through a mixer would indeed be mono.

    Mic for Acoustic Blues

This is good info. think the B1 is a definate right now I also like the 603 idea. Can I use one of these or do I need a pair.? I only have 2 inputs to my recorder. One for voice and one for guitar. I would have to buy a mixer if I wanted a stereo pair. Can I just use one SD to start...

    Mic for Acoustic Blues

PS When I said first mic, I meant condensor. I have an SM57. I actually think my vocals are ok through it. The acoustis is a little muddy. For slide, if I use a fingerpick it's not bad at all but the bass can be a little boomy. I think I'll consider B1, v67 and maybe a cheap SD. For the...

    Mic for Acoustic Blues

Thanks Dan, I have spent a few hours (today!) on the listening sessions. It is a very useful site. Thanks for such a great resource. However, Because I am new to condensors, I have a hard time differentiating the mics. One other question is that if I want to record vox and guitar at the...

    Mic for Acoustic Blues

I am trying to make a call on my first mic. I record mostly acoustic fingersyle and slide. I usually try and record both guitar and voice together but don't mind doing 2 tracks. I have a Martin 00015 which is a very warm sounding guitar. My voice is ok but not great. Here are some...

    Footswitch for Controlling Computer

OK, I now have my little studio set up. M-Audio 410 Guitar Tracks Pro Dell Laptop Studiophile Bx5's Seems to work quite well and the sound quality is much better than my PS-02. The only thing is I don't like having to lean over to the computer and hit the record button. I use a click in...

    M-audio Firewire410 ?

I just bought one. It is 2 in (not 4). I think it sounds great. It worls well on my fancy Dell laptop but I am trying to make it work on my old Dell P3 500MHz machine. It DOES NOT work with a firewire card using the NEC chipset. You need to get one with TI chipset. They can recommend card...
