Wow... it has been a few months since I've been on this forum. At the time I posted some less-than-complementary experiences with the ART Tube MP; seemed that everyone else thought the world of the thing back then. I can't believe how critical the tone has become on these things!
But with...
I have both a shubb and a kyser, and I prefer the shubb in every way (except for the fact that you can clip the Kyser to the head to keep from losing it.)
I know it's old technology, but it's worth mentioning. Avoid the older AMD K6 based systems, especially for music applications. The processor has problems with a floating point error. I have one of these dogs and I can't run any real-time effects because it crashes the system.
I have heard...
As far as miking an acoustic, keep in mind that you are only going to get a tone as good as the guitar itself- no matter how good your mic is or how well it's placed, a bad guitar is still going to sound like a bad guitar. Quality counts here.
My personal opinion is that having the preamp...
There is a world of difference between the elixir polyweb and nanoweb strings. the coating on the nanoweb is very, very thin and they feel and sound to me much more like ordinary strings. But they last sooooo much longer. They really sing on my taylor.
The metronome is pretty important. Basically, I do a rough cut of guitar/singing over the click; then play drums to the rough cut and the click; then re-track bass, guitar, vox over the drums (and click, depending on my mood). Definitely do the drums first if you're not a strong drummer; it's...
Thanks for the elaboration, Knightfly. It's probably also worth mentioning that while the high-Z headphones require a bigger voltage swing to achieve the same loudness, they also need far less current. And just as some headphone amplification circuits can swing higher voltages than others...
Just wondering how you guys have your drives set up on your DAW's. The 3 main questions I have are:
1) Do you guys think it's preferable to have 2 smaller HD's or 1 bigger HD? How does this affect backup capability?
2) How do you guys have your partitions set up? How are they organized- do...
Littledog, basically the way it works is this: the power being provided to the headphones (watts) is determined by the impedance and the current passing through the transducers (P=I^2 * R). Efficiency tells us how much sound (dB) is being made per unit of power (watt). In practice, the...
For the record-- the impedance doesn't necessarily correlate to the loudness. The efficiency correlates to the loudness, it will be given as XX decibels per watt at a certain distance. And different phones are better for different things. closed phones like the sony's are better for tracking...
One other point to consider is that voltage regulators usually have pretty poor transient response, which doesn't much matter for most low-powered studio gear... however, if you're using it in a live rig behind big power amplifiers, you may find you have less effective power for loud passages/...
I bought one of the aforementioned rackrider conditioners and it really helped reduce noise and hum quite a bit, especially from the fridge, washing machine, etc. I'm not sure how important it is to have the voltage regulated because, to my knowledge, most pro audio equipment has it's own...
