    Another stupid levels question!! Sorry

The misunderstanding in at lest my case is that the mastering process has such a significant effect on the overall volume. I was under the impression that the mastering process being the last was for final fine touches and small changes in volume to match other tracks being put on the same CD. I...

    Another stupid levels question!! Sorry

I'm a little confused here. If my average is up at say -3db with peaks at -1 on the master, why is the bounced mix volume not loud enough? If I was averaging -12 would it not be less loud? Is the final volume attained some other way than getting the average mix as high as possible using...

Motu 896 meters vs. Cubase meters?

OK I am a bit confused! I have heard that you should never exceed 0db on the input (Motu 896) meters which I understand to prevent distortion. I have also heard that you want to have the input signal as close to 0db without clipping to reduce excess noise. What should the meters in cubase be at...

    Drum track compression

Ok hopefully someone can educate me on this. I have a Motu 896 and a Toft Audio ATC-2 preamp/EQ/Compressor recording to Cubase SX using a mic for (Snare, Bass Drum, 1 each for the small/Med/Floor toms, 2 overhead) total of 7 Mics. The compressor is a 2 channel and when recording I have been...

    Drum signal hot!

Sounds like it is clipping and quite badly at times. I have tried moving the mics as far away as possable although I am using mic clips which limit the distance I can move them away. Just cant figure out why the signal is so hot.

    Drum signal hot!

Problem is the gain is already turned all the way down. Would not the +4 add gain. It says something in the manual that the +4 switch postion disables the front panel gain switches. The mics I am using are Snare-Audix I5 and Toms- Audix F10.

    Drum signal hot!

I am recording through a Motu 898HD to Cubase SX. The problem I am having is the drums, speciifcally the snare and sometimes the toms are clipping even with the gain knob at 0. This is especially the case when a snare rimshot is played. The Motu which is new to me and has what I consider a very...

Best option to add additional inputs

Hi, I am new to Homerecording.com BBS so I hope this is the correct forum. I have a Motu 898HD and am using Cubase SX. I am thinking about adding additional inputs to record Drum tracks. Currently I have 1 Bass Drum, 2 Toms, 1 Floor, 1 Snare and 2 Cymbal mics setup which takes up all my 8 analog...
