You know, the song by Hot Chocolate? I heard it on a commercial and noticed a drum part, bongo, I think. It sounds like it's being run through a wah petal or being blended with a wah guitar part. Anyway, anyone know how it was done? I don't have a copy of the song, so I can't listen to it through my system.
 
Sounds like a Wah or a really slow phaser. They are sorta the same effect just one is controlled manually and the other by an LFO.
 
Listening to it again it's probably a filter sweep. That's pretty much the same thing as Phaser or Wah but it can be a lot more severe. They used them alot for 70's funk guitar.
 
On the congas, it's most definately a filter. It might be a lowpass filter with a pretty high resonance (Q) setting, or it may be a band pass sweeping up.
 
Cool, thanks. The part I noticed, was during the chorus, it almost sounded like the congas were morphing into a guitar, like a vocorder effect.
