WS FTP LE upload dropout to Tripod

In August I started building a website dedicated to music, games and past fassions of the 1970’s and 1980’s. For five months, I uploaded everything using WS FTM LE Version 5.06. Every upload went fine. I update the website every two weeks. At Christmas I introduced a radio station section to the website and this is where the problems began.

I record a one hour program every week and upload it onto the website. I first record the program in wav format using Sound Forge 4.5. When finished, I change it into Real Player Audio format which brings the file size down to about 10 – 15 megs. I then upload the program onto my lycos site which has a 50 meg limit. I’ve used about 15-20 megs. FOR SOME REASON DURING UPLOAD, THE FILE DROPS OUT AROUND SEVEN TO EIGHT MEGS AND REFUSES TO GO ANY FURTHER. It’s nothing to do with my internet connection as I am still connected at the time of drop out.

I believe it has something to do with a time out fault in explorer. (I could be wrong). I have been unable to find any info anywhere on the internet in resolving this problem. Are they any changes I need to do to my windows configs? Is this just a limitation I have with my slowwww 56K modem? It takes me about 25-30 minutes to upload 8 megs. About the time when it cuts out.

As I was typing this thread. WS FTP was just sitting idle and still dropped out. I've concluded that whatever activity I'm doing, I seem to have an 30-35 minute window to upload before I get cut off. Strangely I'm still connected to the internet. I tried using Real Players upload facility but was haunted by the same result.

Any help would be much appreciated.

This has less to do with windows and more to do with your connection. My guess is that either Tripod or your ISP is cutting you off. Some ISP's like AOL will break long up/downloads if you leave the computer during the transfer. If you have a decent ISP, then I would assume it to be Tripod.

Hi Slacky,

Thanks for your help. Yeah, it was tripod.

I've actually lost my sight because of storing large files on there. But then they wouldn’t tell me this. They just terminated my website and deleted all my files without notice. (what lames)

Looks like I have to look for another host that specialises in Windows/Real Player Media Storage.

Once again, thanks for helping, much appreciated.
