Wireless Headset Mic Question

Have a current wireless headset mic being used at church. Current model, a Samson Stage 55, is a VHF unit. We are getting interference to a level that makes it hard to use. Moving transmitter and receiver around and being close has little difference. Other Samson units, of the same style, on other channels are also used at same location without problems. This one has channel 8.

We are looking to perhaps get a different mic, hopefully a UHF model. We already have a Samson UHF Series One receiver on channel U6. Samson makes a headset unit (their Airline series) that would work with this receiver. These are available for about $250.

Are there opinions and experiences with this Samson headset model (AH1)? We also know that Shure has a number of models, but those are out of the price range.

Those Airline systems seem to work pretty well. You may like reading the Shure wireless papers . Gives a good overview of what you are dealing with, and may give more insight into your problem. Wireless hassles can be very frustrating.
See if you can try before you buy, in any case.

Try before you buy is critical here - your system may be responding to an old heating system or funky church wiring - lots of radio waves get sent out when an old set of heating circulators kick in. UHF will be a big improvement but your location may be quirky enough to warrant a higher end system - look at Sennheiser, for instance. But the only way you'll know is to try it out at the location and at the same time of day you'll be using it.

We have arelady used the UHF system with hand helds, and that works well with no interferance. I just have not used the Samson UHF headset model at all.

The channel 8 VHF interference problem is not issolated to the church but occurs in other locations in the same area.
