Windows & OSX Networking Question...

Anyone using multiple machines & OSs got their shit connected via (wireless) router?

I've done what I can, but now I'm stuck.
Managed to install the card, configure the router for internet access,
and my Windows box is receiving a strong wireless signal from the router.

I thought I set all the shared folder and access shit properly, but from neither machine can I see the other.

Anyone with any tips on what/where I should check to make sure I've got things configured properly?

Box 1 = g4 mac with Belkin wireless router
Box 2 = XP pc with Xterasys Internal/PCI wireless LAN NIC

Get panther (os 10.3) if you don't have it already. It really makes a huge difference in networking with pc's.

10.2.8 is already paid for, so that's what I'm using.:)
Have you had any success with this?

I've been checking here for help:
http://www.mac-connect.com/win_mac_samba.php

On the mac side:

Connect to Server command only sees the mac itself, & when I type in the address (name) of my windows machine, I get an error message on the mac (as seen below).

I've created account(s) & checked the box to allow user to log in with Windows, and activated windows file sharing, printer sharing, and personal file sharing.

On the windows side:

View Workgroup Computers shows only the windows computer's name.
Microsoft Windows Network shows a workgroup with the name of my mac, but I now think that's a result of some group created on the XP machine because it's not capitalized the same as the name of the mac on the mac itself. Also, when I click on the aforementioned workgroup, I only see an icon for the windows machine - behind which hides all the folders I made available to the mac from the XP box.

I must got something twisted.

I've been trying to figure this out off & on for 2 days with no luck, so I've decided that it must be something really simple...

Oh yeah,
I get the same error message when I type in the I.P. address of the windows machine in the Connect To Server dialogue box, only the progress bar runs for a minute or two before I get the error.

Solutions that work...

Well, for anyone who may need this info down the road, here goes...

NOTE: For some reason, even with everything set up properly, it took SEVERAL tries to get things working properly, and I dunno why...

Then I decided to go the 3rd party software route for the additional configuration flexibilty & security, hence: DAVE.

http://www.thursby.com/products/dave.html

Took 5 minutes to configure both machines, and everything works flawlessly, pushing & pulling files from one machine to the other - both ways.

Configuring directly between the two machines works as well, but it's a bit more step-laden, and even my IT friends bitched about making things network properly without some kind of 3rd party software. I saw some cool looking freeware & shareware, too, but opted to not fuck with them. I figured in the case of shit not working right, I wanted to have someone to moan to, though it looks like I won't be needing to excercise that option.

BTW - OSX 10.3 can be kinda funky on the networking with windows side of things, as I understand it, especially if you're NOT using 3rd party goodies.
