Windows 2000 users - Service Pack 4 just released

Its anywhere up to a 129 meg download depending on which flavor you want, so if you don't have broadband you may just want to order it on a CD (which you can do from the same site)

Holy shit. Last I heard Microsoft had cancelled its plans to release SP4 as a full service pack! Let me know if you have any issues.

If every thing seems to be working well, why would one want to install a service pack?

Is there a benefit to this ?

A SP includes all of the security patches and bug fixes that were released prior to the pack, plus new fixes.

It's good to keep both Windows and IE up to date, as there are a lot of nasty viruses out there that will take advantage of flaws in both. From a stability point of view, it can also be a good idea to stay up to date to prevent future problems even if you're not experiencing any now.

Of course on rare occasion i have had a SP screw up an install....but rarely.
