Hi all

Is there much difference between the i5 661 dual core and the i7 920 quadcore processors as far as making music goes, or would either be entirely adequate?

Ditto between 3Gb and 4Gb of RAM?

Either one should be fine.

If you are running a 32 bit version of Windows, its only going to see a max of 3.5 gigs. HOWEVER... depending on the motherboard, you are most likely going to want to run matched pairs of memory modules, in order to get full speed. So yes a pair of 2 gig modules or 4 x 1 gig modules is better than an odd number.
 
The seller is offering 4Gb RAM with Windows 32 bit. Are you saying that's not possible? Because I already have my suspicions about their top model, which they say gives triple channel memory with windows 32 bit OS. I asked them about it and they wrote back and said they were not sure, which made me wonder...

You can install 4 GB of RAM with XP, but it will only recognize about 3.5 GB. I have 2 x 2GB intalled in mine. It runs fine, but only recognized 3.5 gigs. I'm not sure about the triple channel memory.
