How often should the bottom heads of drums be changed? How can you tell when they need to be changed?

When you can't tune them any more. After a few years, the heads get brittle and can't be tensioned evenly. That is when it is time. I change mine every couple years.

Sounds like my drummer is due for a change then. I think it has been over 5 years. Thanks for tips!

Farview knows his shit. Every year and a half for me, generally speaking.

I've never changed my bottom heads!

Because I have melodic toms! :D

Ah, the Wayback machine is malfunctioning. Sherman, have you been fooling with this again?

Actually I bought my kit new in 1985. It's a 7-piece Gretsch. The name of the finish is "Fusion Purple." :D
