hello gang,
I am building a home studio like many of you with questions. My question is, I hear and read about studios with two and three sets of mionitors. What is the purpose of this. Do you have the house speakers for your mix and the monitors for the band/singer??? need some input from the family, thanks

sometimes they're for different purposes...

#1 small generic speaker... if it sounds good here so will the bommbox...

#2 good to great small speakers... not fatigueing... excellent detail....

#3 big mommas... impress the clients...

I've got 2 sets and it's for referencing like chameliousDude said. ;)

I do my main mixing on Adam A7's and a beefy assed home stereo for reference by A/B ing between the two to see how well the mix translates.

I'll also use headphones to check to see if I like my pans and reverbs etc and to get a closer proximity type of check of the mix.

but dats just me. ;)

:drunk:

;) This one for sure!!!!! ;)

The big mommas may impress clients, but the real reason to use them is to make sure you haven't overcompensated for the poorer bass response of the smaller speakers.

mind if i cut in?
i am wanting to add my second set of monitors to my set up but only have one left and right outputs on my interface (running pro tools on a m box mini) any ideas how i could do this, the best/cheapest way
