Wicked, I'm a senior member,

Anyway

I'm about to get a new mobo and every one I deem has the right features seems to have a VIA chipset

Are there still problems with newer boards with VIA chipsets for running socket A Athlons (up to 1.4 Ghz), or have they sorted it?

running cakewalk 9 and maudio audiophile and SB1024

cheers

Seems to depend on what other hardware you install.
I've heard both good and bad - seems the problem lies in the way the chipset handles PCI traffic.
I just installed a new MOBO in my sons' computer with a KTA 133A chipset, and it works great - he's not recording with his PC though. The 133a is supposed to be the "repaired" version of the 133. You still need to install the latest 4-in-1 drivers though. I also found a patch on the web for that chipset - supposed to solve many of the problems. I can't remember where I found it though. Do a search on this site, that's probably where I got it.
Also, check out this article for an endorsement of VIA.

It's the kt266a . Make sure it has the "a" at the end, as it is a revised version of the kt266
