What's the best way to run a Digi 001 through a Patchbay?

I've got a Digi 001, a 24 channel tascam board (I'm only using 8 direct outs right now), some preamps and a couple compressors. Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to run this through a normalled 48 point patchbay? Should I go into the digi 001 first and then back out into compressors, etc., or should I first patch into everything I need (for tracking) and then into the Digi 001?

I would setup eight outs from the mixer on the first set of eight top row normalled to: 8 ins on the 001 on the next row. Next I would put the digi 001's outs on the next 8 group top normalled into 8 inputs on the mixer. Next would be the effects up to four stereo or e mono peices, outs on top and ins on bottom nonnormalled.

That is all you need to patch for mixing and tracking just leave 8 inputs open on the mixer to route to the 8 outs on the patchbay.
