Whatever those "p" sounds are called

I am preparing to record a commercial to be played on radio stations. I know that the radio station can take out the strong "p" noises, but I would like to do it myself. I have tried backing away from the mic and everything else I know to do, but nothing really works. I am using Screenblast Sound Forge Deluxe if anyone knows anything about this program.

Thanks in advance,
Delilah

I believe what you are referring to are called "plosives". I've heard of a couple of ways to reduce them in recordings. One, you can go out and buy a pop-filter that you place in front of the mic. A cheaper way is to take an old pair of nylon pantyhose and stretch them across a sewing hoop (I think that's what it's called). Place this in between you and the mic and it should help. Another way is to position the mic at the same level as your upper lip angled slightly downward. This helps avoid the blast of air from directly hitting the diaphragm of the mic.

Hopefully more experienced folks here will pipe up with better recommendations.
