We found this old microphone at a friend's house, but I can't find any information on it.

It's an AKG D70 ME (Austria).

Can anyone tell me what kind of mic this is and if its any good?

The product info for this discontinued item on the AKG site is in German....

Not sure if it needs some sort of power as when I plug it in to a PC, you can't hear much.

Not weird at all, darnold, all AKG's are made in Austria. D always designates a dynamic, C a condenser. Any number starting with 7 in a dynamic usually indicates a hand held dynamic intended for instruments but usable for vocals. Numbers that start with 8 indicate a lead vocal mic. 2 digit series are older than 3 digit series. This would tend to indicate a stage mic, fairly old ?1970's-1980's. intended for brass, sax, cabs, and backing vocals. Treat it like an SM57.
Mark7 in the UK has access to some links on discontinued AKG mics that I cannot access through my web server no matter what I do, and AKG USA has no info. on discontinued mics. Prithee, good Syr, wilst thou post this sucker up?-Richie
