What KHZ range to boost snare at.

Short question.
I'm using a pre-recorded drum track from a Mick Fleetwood collection but the snare needs more punch...what range is the snare usually most benifitted from boosting w/out gangkin up the other drums. I could sit there and play all day but I'm sure there's someone has a good starting point or rule of thumb to go by.
Thanx for the help

My three most likely snare eq's would be medium-narrow bell boost at around 80-150 for wieght, 2-3khz for brightening, or a very narrow cut to attack the primary 'bong' tone if it isn't working.
'Brightening' a too-close miced snare doesn't seem to work out very well. Except the UltraFunk gate with the filter-boost thingy on works, up a little higher too.
Or a bell cut in the 'boxy' sounding area 200-500.
Oops, that's four.
I don't know if that qualifys as punch though.

Thanx, I'll give 'em a try with the old Waves EQ when I get back to my studio. I appreciate the help.
