what is midi

midi is a format of language between a device and your computer---Say you have a midi controller/keyboard
you press a key and send a signal to the cpu---a signal, not a sound. This allows you to record which "note" you are playing, its duration, perhap amplitude and such. You can tehn use plugins to change the sound of the signal to whatever you wish

Midi can also be used to trigger events, adjust settings etc.
