Hey, Im trying to decide on a new setup...I was thinking about the focusrite saffire pro. BTW i was going to use it with an AKG c414 mic. Does anyone have any idea how these would sound together, or can you suggest a better interface? Price is not a factor. Thanks a lot!

why not get RME fireface 800? or something from MOTU? both great.

both are good...I use the MOTU 896HD, which is a killer interface...the pre's are some of the cleanest, most transparent i've ever heard. you want something that will record the most accurate representation of your microphone...i.e. the cleanest

Metric Halo ULN-2 for 2 great preamps, killer converters
Metric Halo 2882 for 8 good preamps, lightpipe in, killer converters

These are Mac only, which is their only drawback.

If you're on a PC, the Fireface is probably your best bet (especially compared to a MOTU or a Digi), although the preamps are marginal at best. If you're using outboard pres, the converters are very nice though.

A vote for the RME Fireface 800! Decent pres, great converters!

If price is not a problem, then you can go with Digi 002 if you're going the Pro Tools route, or, you can go with RME Fireface 800 if you prefer other sequencers/audio workstation setup.

You can also browse other firewire interfaces here.
