What does a speaker emulator do..?

And by that I mean;
What does it do to my signal? I own a Marshall JMP-1 pre-amp which has Speaker Emulated outputs. The signal is totally usable, so no comment there, but I wonder what exactly it is the JMP-1 or any ol' other emulator does to the signal.

Thanx

The highs get rolled off a speaker compared to the more full-range spectrum at the line out of the amp.The speaker emulator on this and other units attempts to use an EQ profile of the speaker cab to compensate.
As your ears told,there is still a ways to go in this emulation business.

You can use it either to send a direct signal to your PA system that is tweaked to resemble what the tone would be after being pumped through the named cabinets, or the same idea to a recording device, as opposed to micing it.

Indeed

Indeed, the speaker emulator sounds pretty groovy. Especially if you mice as well. The two mixed together provide a pretty versatile sound.

Experimenting with this stuff is fun. Now for a good mic. *sigh*
Why does all this gear cost so much cash.
:)
