Magic Bag Of Sounds
preferrably free software, i'm trying to get a few avi files that i've transferred from my video camera onto a dvd. i've also got a few divx files that i would like to convert over.
i know nero can do the actual burning, but i think i need a convertor to get them into the proper format for dvd video. any ideas?

Won't Nero do that conversion? (I gathered you have Nero from what you say...)
You might also see if WMP will convert an avi into an MPEG for dvd.

(sorry, I have usd a few programs, but they were bought, so my knowledge of teh free ones is limited..... :o )

What I usually do is use a Good Mpeg encoder to convert the AVI to Mpeg-2/DVD Format (Tmpgenc) and then I use a DVD authoring program Like "Meadichance DVDLab pro" to add my custom menu"s and add Chapters and sceneselections ect and it formats it all into a "Video_TS" folder which you can burn to DVD with "Nero" in "DVD Video Mode".....

You can get demo versions of all these programs that aren"t cripples in any way....

Cheers
