Signup for esnipe.-Richie

He bid with 9 seconds left, the winner with 6. But he didn't lose because of timing, he lost because the winner bid more. esnipe would not have helped.

oh_the_blood: learn to bid your max. Snibbling doesn't work too well.

Just decide your absolute highest limit that you want to spend on it, and then add an arbitrary amount, like $1.32, and then when there are 10 seconds left, bid your maximum. Do you know how proxy bidding works? Look it up on the Ebay FAQ thingy if you don't.

esnipe is a service that places lightning fast bids in the closing fractions of a second of an ebay auction. Whether it works depends on several factors. First, is whether somebody else using esnipe has a higher limit. If they do, you will lose. esnipe will bid up in increments automatically until it reaches whatever limit you have placed on the auction. A lot of people will wait until the last few minutes to try and steal an ebay auction- esnipe will outbid them in the last 3 seconds, faster than anyone can type. So- esnipe might have helped, depending on whether the other guy was sniping, and depending on who had the higher limit. Yes, I know it's slimy, but that's why you always seem to get beat out in the last couple of minutes by snipers. The only way to beat them is to join them. There is a small fee for a sucessful sniping, but the first 30 days is free. If you do a lot of buying on ebay, it's unfortunately necessary.-Richie

I concur.
I esnipe everything on ebay. After losing a couple of things that I wanted REALLY badly, I went to the dark side.
www.esnipe.com

It's pennies to do it. Ive been going for months with $5 in my esnipe account.

Excuse me, Oh_the_Blood. I didn't invent the cursed thing. I'm just trying to tell you why you are getting beat, and what you can do about it.-Richie

haha i know, just sayin.

thats kinda like cheating.

You don't have to esnipe, unless you can't be around for auction end, or don't want to. Regular manual sniping works just as well, as does simply putting in a high proxy early. The disadvantage of the latter method is that you give nibblers the chance to run up your price, which may or may not matter in the end.

I like to bid a little early, maybe 11 minutes, just for sport. One time a sniper lost to me by $0.01 and it was pretty damn funny.

But yeah, if you want to win as cheap as possible, snipe. But you will still lose to higher bidders, whether they bid before or after you.

One thing you never see is sniper bids that don't get placed, because their esnipe bid has already been outbid.

Thus, bid to win. Bidding to bid is fun, but doesn't have much to do with winning.

Now that its available, I'm going to start extending my auctions at the last minute to thwart the snipers. I don't think it should be allowed. As someone who has participated in countless real auctions, I can tell you that the "esnipe" goes against the entire auction environment.

the secrete to ebay (shhhhhhhh)

determine the most you're willing to spend.
bid it
if your out bid it's not because of timing, it's because someone else was willing to spend more than you.

i just won an auction that i bid on 5 days ago, some idiot tried to snipe me but it just didn't work. why? cause my bid was higher than his snipe.

you lose because you bid less, not because you bid slow.

I'm not really found of snipers or last minute bidders. All that does is jack up the prices for everybdoy.

Point blank, no sniper will ever beat you if your bid is higher than theirs. All a losing sniper does it jack up the price for you. If your max bid was 300 and you could of won for 250 and some dumbass bid 255.53 in the last 3 seconds then all he did was make you pay more. And that's what I hate snipers......

It's the "oh man I could of had it for 5 dollars more" that gets to people when they get outbid. Sure the winner won by 5 dollars, but his highest bidd might have been 300 more than yours was. But, that's the nature of proxy bidding.

If you really want to find a killer deal, you won't find it on ebay. Unless you stubble across a "gibdon les paul" and some idiot has just mispelled gibson. (And trust me that never happens, I check)......

I collect mini guitars, there's maybee 100 other people in the world that collect minis. And it really sucks because the other people always bid on the best ones. There's been times when I bought a mini for over 200 bucks one time that had been sitting in a pawnshop for 50 bucks for years. Nobody ever looked at it, because nobody came into that pawnshop looking for minis. It hits ebay and the collectors pull out their guns.......

It's impossible to get a great deal on ebay...... I seriously have a love/hate relationship with ebay...... Although I hate it sometimes I have a pretty crippling addiction to it.

How is esniping cheating ....when everybody can use it??????
www.esnipe.com - there you go.

There is no guarantee you will win just because you esnipe, and if everybody is putting in there highest bid - then the highest bid wins? Right? Just like any other auction - sniped or not.

Using steroids in sports is cheating - because it's illegal and gives the user an unfair advantage not available to his opponent. Breaking people fingers in a dogpile is cheating, because it's illegal and it puts your opponenet at a disadvantage of having broken fingers... etc, etc,

esniping is just bidding in the last seconds - which is something anyone can do without esnipe by hitting the submit button in the last 3 seconds. Why is it not cheating if you do it manually?

Seems like ebay would put a stop to it if they felt it was unethical, or cheating. They have stopped everything else they consider unethical (porn, organs, fraud, etc...)

Just my thoughts,
Todd
