What do you do when you have rust on mic grills?

Do you use coke and aluminium foil ( yes, I'm serious ) to remove the rust, or do you just buy a new grill?

In the case of an SM58 replacing the grill is easy. Even with a cheap aftermarket one (looks and feels the same).
Though with an expensive LDC that's a different story. I keep it as is ... Sorta shows it's character.
