There are no "Best" mics. while some may be considered better than others, it boils down to what you're trying to do and what you expect to achieve. A $5.00 mic might be the "best" mic for a given application.

Well, my top-5 manufacturers are (alphabetically):- DPA, Microtech Gefell, Neumann, Schoeps and Sennheiser.
But there is no "best" mic. for everything - you would choose a different mic. depending on what is being recorded, the instrument that is being recorded, the musician and the room.
Take the same musician and the same instrument into a different room and you may find that a different mic. is needed to get the best result.
That's why professionals have lots of different mics from several different manufacturers.
