Websites, books, etc. to learn drum programming

I'd love to be able to record the real thing, but I'm not a drummer, nor do I have the space for a set (much less the proper acoustics in said space). I just wanted to know the little subtleties that make my programming sound more real. I want to get ns_kit7. It seems like a good deal: 5 DVDs of samples, variety of different sizes, tunings, and articulations. All of this is useless without knowing how to use it. While learning patterns is easy (listen to CDs and figure out what it is they're playing) getting them to sound real is a problem. I wonder if I should get a MIDI drum controller to tap the hits in, or if a keyboard is sufficient enough. I'd like to learn how to humanize the programmed drums, how I can add ghost notes, misses, velocities, etc. I found a couple books on Amazon:

I found some websites that give a nice start, but I'd like something that goes a bit more in depth. Maybe no such thing exists, but I figure I might as well ask. I record everything from light acoustic rock to metal, and I use n-Track as my sequencer. I did search here for threads, but couldn't find any that were specific.
