water cooling

hi all,

any of yall use a water cooling system instead of a fan to keep the PC quiet?
I heard it was the ultimate tool for quietness, is it true?

I'm asking this because I want to record vocal in the same room that my PC is and it's fan is very loudy, how good water cooling would be for that??

Peace.

I used to have watercooling and it worked OK but if you pick your fans carefully it can be as quite or quieter than all but the best watercoolers (the one with the big external reserve tanks) my water cooler pump broke down after about 6 months and I never put it back in.

Just offering up some options :)

How about considering fanless power supplies for starters; http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=fanless+power+supply&um=1&ie=UTF-8

Or CPU Heatsinks; http://www.frozencpu.com/products/6...ocket_775_AM2.html?tl=g33c167s511&id=gq8zRHVv

But if you've gotta have water, there are fanless units; http://raq4.buydonlin.com/p-RESERATOR2.html

My point is, there's more than one way to skin this cat. It's all about how far you're willing to go, what's your budget like and how quiet is "quiet". Just keep in mind there aren't any freebies. Water systems have their drawbacks just as heatsink designs. It's been posted here in the forums before, one of the cheapest and fastest ways to get away from PC noise is to move the PC into an adjoining room or stuff it into a closet. If you go this route, there are remote options for PCs like KVMs which bring the monitor, mouse and keyboard back on your work surface when the PC is in the next room. Which by the way is my favorite option and as you can see, fairly inexpensive and a lot less hassle than trying to mod your PC ; http://www.kvms.com/cat5-kvm-extender.asp

Good luck.

Another REALLY cheap alternative: buy extension cables for your monitor, keyboard, and mouse and put the main CPU case in another room. No noise at all.

I bought 20ft extensions for my entire system for less than $35 a few years ago.
Of couse, your keyboard and mouse need to be PS2 as USB length is limited, but still the better choice. I think, anyway.

I dont think I would want to risk ANYTHING liquid flowing through my case. Fans, the right power supply, insulation, and careful planning can get you a quiet PC without the possibility of your CPU drowning.
