i have a "warming" effect i can drop on a insert to beef up vocals. what is the effect ddoing? changing the eq?
..I also have somewhat of an understand its trying to mimic a certain type of mic? yes?

Warmth often means rolling off high frequencies, and adding a slight amount of distortion.

Guitar distortion usually includes some level of soft peak clipping which is a bit different. Analog "warmth" is more like soft tube overdrive in that it "thickens" the sound by adding 2nd order harmonics, and a small amount of 3rd order.

Yes, exactly. Not a huge amount to sound like a fuzz tone, but enough to make the sound thicker.
