VU Meter Sticks

I have a TASCAM M520 and one of the VU meter neddles sticks.
If I tap the front of the meter window several times the neddle will start working. I wonder if anyone has experienced this and is there a solution other than replacement? Is there a method for cleaning the meter neddle mechanism?

I wonder if a shot of compressed air into the housing would blow away possible dust/crud in the mechanism?

I don't think there is any direct access holes on the lens to do it though so you might have to disassemble the meter bridge to get at it from inside!
