Volume surge/spike at beginning of audio clips

I multed some tracks to apply different eq settings throughout the song. When one clip ends and another begins, there is a volume spike before the volume stabilizes to the normal track gain level. Is there a way to fix this? I did make sure to have snap to zero crossing selected when I was making my edits. I think the problem might have something to do with a plug-in, like a compressor, when the wav forms start again. Is there a way to insert some filler audio that is muted or silent to fix this? Or another method?

A screen shot and a sample would help.

Do the clips overlap?

I checked for overlaps and deleted. I also identified one eq plug-in which I believe was the main culprit. I think if I dial back the gain on its out, the problem is less noticeable. Or just not use it at all. All the other effects and settings on other tracks seem to be okay.

Thanks for the response.

Try short fade ins and outs on each clip where they overlap.

Cheers :)
