Morning,
My bands preparing to record our second release. Last time we used a U87, but i suspect there may be issues with it. The vocal ended up sounding very flat. Heres an example: The Sun Explodes - Dead/Alive - YouTube
The time before, we used a very cheap "red5" LDC, but i think the vocal actually sounds better: The Sun Explodes - Weigh Your Sins - YouTube
Heres another sample of his voice that he's recorded at his place just with a beta 58: The Pariah - YouTube
We're going to try all the mics we have, but thats pretty much just the above, and then 58's and beta 58's. I wondered if based on the sound of our singer, any of you have any other recomendations on mics that might better suit his voice. We may try to borrow or hire, but hire seems very expensive.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
(Please note i do obviously realise that the mix/master/instrumentation/etc will have a big/bigger effect on the end result, we just want to get the base sound as good as possible)
