using laptop for HD recording

Just wondering, if I installed CEP on my laptop, could I use the laptop for HD recording? My desktop computer has a pretty good soundcard (Audigy 2 Platinum Soundblaster), and I believe laptops generally don't. However, for the purposes of, say, recording an LP to digital format using CEP, then burning to CD, would the inbuilt soundcard in the laptop be up to the job without compromising the sound quality of the completed CD?

Portability is the obvious advantage I am after here.

I use an HP nx8220 for up to 16 tracks at a time of live recording, but I wouldn't dream of using it's own soundcard for anything. (I use a Moto Traveler).
