Used mixer: What shall I look for?

Hi! I'm in the market for a new mixer and today I found a guy that wanted to sell a used Soundcraft M12 in mint condition (according to him). Well, I'm a bit worried about buying used equipment. I want to make sure that nothing is wrong with it. How can I make sure it's working like it should?

I've never used a mixer before, so I don't know what to look for. The guy said I was wellcome to come visit him and try the mixer out. How shall I test it? What should I look out for?

Right, just run signal through all the channels and play with the eq, gain, faders, etc. Look for obvious sign of physical, and make sure dude didn't spill beer or Yoohoo all over it. How much is he selling it for? I just got one for $675 new, which is not a lot of money for how highly touted the M series is, so unless this used one is in great shape and being offered for considerably less, I'd just order one new.

I just ordered mine last week for $590. I'm curious how much you're paying for this used one, too.

Well my M12 is getting shipped tomorrow, along with a FMR RNC. All for $747 and free shipping. Hell yeah.

"Give Joel Pare at Full Compass a call if you're looking for the M series. He quoted me the best price on an M12 I've found by almost $100. 800-356-5844 ext 1116. "

If you get a chance do that for anything, the guy is awesome.

This guy is the best. Call him and he'll quote you the price. Maybe you can cancel your order and save $70.

Soundcraft

I'm a Soundcraft drealer and I get them dirt cheap. I am also a dealer for Audix, Crest, Stewart, SE Electronics, Behringer, DOD, Azden, Lightspeed, PAS, OAP, ISP, HOSA and many other pro-audio companies. If you want some good prices drop me an email at davidwebster@bellsouth.net I work out of my home office so I don't have alot of mark-up.

heyyy deepwater do you think you could get a hold of a Soundcraft 5-way power cord for a 'S200 PSU' power supply; serial no 'PS-20378' ?? it's from the 70's or soo

if not thanks anyway

590 bucks for a new one! That's what the guy wanted for his used one. The retail price here in sweden is more like 950$ than 590. Does anyone know where I could find the M-8 or M-12 cheap here in Europe? If I could get a M-8 or M-12 for 590$ I'd rather buy a new one.

www.musicstorekoeln.de :

M-8 : €/$622
M-12 : €/$ 877

That's about the cheapest european store I know.

Isn't it all about VAT ? eg. In Belgium we have a 21% vat, in Germany a 16% vat, and thanks to the European Union we don't have to pay import taxes anymore :p

What's the VAT up in Sweden/Norway/Danmark ?

(btw i bought an sm-57 off internet from an american store. With the import taxes added it was still cheaper than buying it in a local music store. disgusting rates... )

I love America. If you order over the net you don't have to pay taxes. And if you have to go to the local store it's only 7% (which still sucks, but it could be worse).

God Bless America and help Congress keep the taxes low.

Maybe President Bush will get his tax cuts he's pushing for. I could use the help.

If you need any gear email me at davidwebster@bellsouth.net

Sondcraft
Crest
HHB
KRK
Audix
much more

Dont get all self righteous about Americans getting cheap gear that goes untaxed. I would gladly pay more tax in order to have the services that some of these highly taxed foreign countrys get for free as a right of citizenship!

Sorry to go off-topic, but I just got a letter from my HMO refusing to pay the orthopedists for my wifes broken foot. They are calling re-setting her foot and putting it in a cast an "elective procedure". And thanks to Bush, even if I wanted to sue my HMO, I wouldnt be allowed to do so.

As for mixer recomendations, I would say get one with lots of faders, knobs, and blinky lights, as they make your studio look sooooooooooo cool!

RE-Bush

Yo could sue, but only upto $250,000.00. I refuse to use an HMO. I have major medical and pay for the rest out of pocket.

I also refuse to live in a Socialist country, but where almost there

If we would stop send millions over seas we could all have free medical at our current tax rate. 15 billion to Africa and who knows what else.

strange

strange how most european countries spend a greater percentage of their GNP on foreign aid than the USA and yet still have universal health care... and better retirements and better small business loans... etc.

how about grants for musicians? i would love to live in a country that gave me money for making music. [see France]

it is weird when small business owners think we have a good tax system when they are being taxed more than any other size of business.

Dude were else can you buy a Hummer and take a 60,000.00 deduction.

Tax help..

1: Declare your studio a bussiness and write off you equipment and show only enough profit to break even.
2: Get a tax ID from your respected state. Why you ask. Two reasons. First, you can buy equipment tax free. Second, you can become a dealer for about any audio product line and buy wholesale. There are also several pro-audio wholesale compnaies that sale at 10% over cost.
Third incorperate into a Sub S corp so you have to pay hardly no SS tax. Also, corporate income tax is around 20% which is cheap if your in the 25%-35% personal tax bracket. Don't forget that you home can be wrote off
