USB Recording Interface

Ok, looks like I'm stuck in the same quandary as others. Got an i5 6MB RAM laptop. Does not have firewire. I wanted to get (2) 8-input devices and daisy-chain them. I could have done this with the Presonus Firewire interface I was looking at.

I looked at the TASCAM 1800 today at Guitar Center, but can not daisy-chain them. UGHH!

Any solutions, besides buying a Mac. No expresscard on laptop either.

Thanks

The Tascam 1800 and 2000 are already 16-in. You don't need to chain them.

Be careful, many usb devices only stream a stereo feed to the computer, not individual channels.

The Presonus VSL1818 gives 8 mic/line/inst inputs and has an ADAT in on the back so you can add something like the Behringer ADA8000 to add another 8 mic/line inputs to it.

Motu has several hybrid USB/Firewire options including the 828mk3 and the 896mk3 each of which will let you add 2 ADAT devices for 24 or more inputs per unit.

I would caution (not advise against) the use of daisy chaining. It can be pretty unreliable. You would probably need a wordclock IO for the two interfaces. Do what Strryder said and get a device with ADAT.
