I am putting together some gear to record decent quality demos for my 5 piece band, I am torn between an 8 channel usb audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 18i20) and a USB mixer (Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK), both will give me 8 channels of audio into my DAW. The Focusrite is smaller and easier to transport however the Soundcraft can also be used for live performances. Can anybody with any experience of this equipment provide some insight?

If your band also needs a live mixer, the Soundcraft might be the ideal tool for you to use.

If you need a mixer and this one actually let's you record all 12 channels at once, this would probably be a good fit.

If all you need is an interface, just get an interface.

Yup, sounds like a no-brainer to me! If I could afford one I would LURVE to ship one to musician son in France.

Dave.
