just for now i need some desktop audio monitors and the alesis m1 320 usb speakers seem cool but they run at usb speed 1.1 if i plug these into a 2.0 port will it be ok?

If you use a USB 2.0 interface, this could be a problem. Since you are looking at usb connected monitors then I assume you are not using an interface. Keep that in mind for future upgrades tho.

USB 2.0 is USB 1.1 backwards compatible. Not a problem. But your device is likely limited to 2 channels, 16 bit, and 48kHz, since that's about all that 1.1 can handle. USB 2.0 can handle more (2x 24/96), but still fairly new in terms of available audio hardware. Even the 2.0 audio standard was only recently finalized. < 3 years? Several years after 2.0 was in the wild. With USB 3.0 in the wild now. But still not that common.
