Upright Bass Tracking Tips

I'm just looking for suggestions on getting an upright bass to track well. The pickup is horrible. It's sounds good in the room. I have a pair of 414s, or a C3, a couple of AT sdc or 57s. I've tracked it using the 414s and it sounds okay, but not as good as it does in the room. I'm going through a Venice console, to a digimax, onto DP4. Any help would be great. He's not bowing much, mostly fingered parts.

Since you say it sounds good in the room, I think you are expecting to capture the presence of the room. Double mic it. Close mic with your 57 and put the 414 few feet away to catch early reflection. I think you'll get the sound you expect.
