Upgrade from Mia for 8-10 inputs

I need to record a full band live soon, so I need to upgrade my 2-in Echo Mia setup with something that has more inputs. I figured some of you had already been through some similar upgrade, so any success stories? What route did you take?

I'm thinking of switching from pci to firewire for possible double-use in portable mode with a laptop.

I also need more pre's, so I was thinking of one of those presonus deals with teh a/d card or something.

BTW - I'd rather stay away from pro tools.

If you've had success with the Mia, why not stick witha good thing and try out Echo's Layla 3G?
