Updating VST plugs NEED HELP PLEASE!

Hey guys.. I am making music for good 5 years now, but I tend to use my vst's for a long time without updating them. So now I got new computer getting new s.monitors and trying to update my software.. So I need to update my VST plugins I need you guys to help me out with getting the best plugs there are on the market. I need these VST's

Compressors
Reverbs
Eq's
and any other useful plugs you think i should look at..

ya i wish i could try the UAD, i have hard a lot of good things about it. does it work like a VST once it is installed though?
