'Trower' sound - how do you get it?

As I type this I'm listening to the King Biscuit Flour Hour Robin Trower live cd - and drooling. Ok, I got a strat, a cry baby and a bunch of flanger and amp modelling effects from a stomp box, and tweak as I might, I can't get close to that beautiful,warm,crunchy,dreamy tone.

Any ideas? Oh,yeah my strat has a rosewood neck,Mr Trower plays a maple - bet that's it (lol!)
 
It doesn't hurt to have a 1969 50 watt non master plexi cranked to 10. throw in a splash of fuzz, a dash of vibes and use the neck pickups. Holy Grail tone my friend.
