I understand that you attatch triggers to the rim of a drum and it sends an electrical impulse to whatever it is you use to record, so I'm wondering how triggers are setup example, are they plugged directly into the mixer, how are they set up etc... thanks in advance

You have to have a drum sound module.

The trigger acts like a pickup, and it converts vibrations into an electrical pulse, which "triggers" the drum module, and the drum module plays the sampled or stored sound in the sound module.
