Here are some terms I encounter often but don't have a firm understanding of:

Comb Filter effect

Transients

Early reflections (Reverb)

Standing waves

Phase shifting...

HELP~!!!!!!

There are many more... Is there a audio dictionary where I can look these terms up?

transient- a short non-pitched signal that usually proceeds the sustained, pitch portion of a musical instruments tone. A flute produces a chiff, a violin produces a scrape, a guitar produces a click.....those are examples of transients.
 
In addition:

A transient is a bum who visits you and drinks your brew, oogles your girl, and needs to be re-recorded.
