So the good news is that because i was laid off my job, the state department of rehabilitation offered to pay for equipment that i can use to broadcast over the web.

i have a budget of about 4-5 thousand!

there are just so many options out there i don't know what to choose;i am terrible at making decisions.

so anyways i need to get

a Condenser Microphone with phantom power,
2. an audio interface,
3. a pop filter,
4. a shock mount,
5. headphones,
6. Laptop

also an affordable way to filter out the noise from outside my apartment

so please help me decide

thanks

Don't forget that your room may have really bad noise reflections and need some acoustic treatment as well if it is very noticeable. It also depends on how professional of a sound you are aiming for.

1) Some good 2 channel audio interfaces are from Steinburg, Focusrite and Presonus ... all for under $150 US or so.
2) AKG makes some nice headphones.
3) Windows 8 sucks donkey balls. That is all.

you mention that you live in an apt. your room treatment options need to be tailored to not being permanently attached structures. for example; freestanding sound absorption panels and gobos as opposed to material attached to the walls and ceiling.

a simple starter suggestion for sound treatment aimed at the podcast scenario you seem to be leaning toward might even be something like...

you can even make your own version of something like this.
