Tons of drums & no knowledge

Howdy...
I need some real basic knowledge on how to put together a drum set, how to mic it, adjust it,
... all the stuff I need to do to record it.

I inherited several drumsets from my late brother in 1993.
Rogers, Yamaha... about 20 sabian cymbals, paiste etc... double kicks and tons of
other stuff I don't have a clue about...

Since then, I've been trying to continue recording in the studio without him using drum machines, ie...

... but I'm constantly being told that the 'canned' drums sound awful. (which they do)

Soo.. what I'm intending to do is partially assemble his old drumsets and re-record, one at a time,
each piece... ie, re-do the hi-hats, toms and cymbals and then sample the kick and snare and
assemble the whole thing.

Is there a half decent web site anybody knows about that would help me, with diagrams, how to put
this stuff together, how to mic it... sampling advice etc etc...
