Tom & Bottom Snare Mics

I'm just starting out with recording drum tracks for people - I was wondering if someone could help me with this as I can't find the answer anywhere.

I have a Shure SM57 and Beyerdynamic M201 which I'm wanting to use for the snare. Which one would work best as the bottom/top mic?

That would really depend on the snare and the sound you are looking for. Try them each in either spot.

I've used all sorts of mics on snares....top and bottoms. The Beyer 201 is the best without a doubt, top OR bottom. Although, now that I think about it, the Beyer 422 was close.
