Tips on recording a flute

I am going to record a flute player - he teaches and wants to make a few CD's available to his students of him playing some etudes to go along with a book. This is not going to be anything real fancy but I would like to do the best I can.

Any hints?

I have a Roland 880EX, 2 AKG1000s's, an AT4047 and a SM-57. I also have a Lexicon MPX-100, a dbx 166 compressor and a DOD graphic EQ.

Would appreciate any advice as to at least a starting point.

Feel free to tell me if some of my equipment is not too good - it is left over from a band!!!! and if there is some other gear I should consider - I also record the guitar drum keyboard stuff too!!
 
Use one mic about 5-7 inchs pointing at the mouthpiece.
Just make sure you keep it away from his breathing or it will sound like you are recording outside with a wind blowing.

Try 2 positions
1. Move the mic to your right ( his left shoulder) and form a figure like a "7" but not such a sharp angle.

2. Behind the flute along side his right ear.

Then use the other condensor you have, to record the room sound ( ambiance).

Play with the placment until your happy with the result.

Forget the effects for later.
