I'm looking to get a sound on my bass close to that of the begining to the tune off of Rush's Farewell to Kings, Cygnus X-1. The snappy wicked thick crunch there is just smokin'. It's more of nice grinding tone that is very well defined & not washed out by major distortion. I read somewhere that he uses (used) an Avalon DI & a Sansamp RBI and that's it.
I am using the Sansamp bass driver & some DBX compression but it's not sounding like his bass in Cygnus X-1. What are you guys using for tight controlled crunch tone like this?
