He's using the double SM-57 thing, like they do on the podium for any White House speeches. D'you reckon that's just the normal way of doing things, or an intentional 'make it look like the White so he looks like a President' thing going on? It shows a couple of different speeches where it's the same.

Yeah. This is John McCain we're talking about here. He's not going to deviate from the George Bush White House microphones. He's using SM57's all down the line.

You'll see Obama using Audix i5's, Heil PR20's, Sennheiser. I like a little change myself
