I'm looking at these two interfaces for my laptop set up and wondering if there is any users out there with any advise. I will be running minidisc recordings and live play as well as attempting midi operations. They both look to have what I need with some differences.

They also come with different software which I would also appreciate any feedback on. I have Reason so if either software is compatible that might help.

Thanks.

Cross,

if you're considering these things, you should also take a look at the new alesis IO2 (170 bucks) or the edirol UA-25 (a little more but worth it)...i just bought the edirol for my wife and the sound is cristal clear, very impressive indeed for such a device..plus it seems very stable.

just a few more options for ya. ;)

The main difference I see between those two units is that the Tascam has two microphone inputs with preamps and phantom power. The M-Audio unit only accepts line inputs. Thus, you could not connect a microphone or guitar/bass directly to the M-Audio for recording purposes.
